The moment for me was watching a documentary, "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music," and in that was a scene of him pulling up the tapes and pushing up the soloed tracks of Clapton and Duane Allman from the song "Layla." I was blown away and hooked after that. It was hearing magic and I knew I had to know more and be a part of it.
I grew up here in Orange County where I started recording at home and figuring things out by experimenting, which is still the most inspiring method in my opinion.
Graduated college from UCSB, traveled and taught abroad, always bringing a guitar and laptop with me.
After coming back home, I stumbled upon what is now Intervals Studio by playing music with friends. Our drummer knew a place where a studio was beginning to take shape in a warehouse south county. I saw the opportunity - this was a chance to be a part of that magic. I got fully immersed at MediaTech Institute's audio engineering program in Oceanside. Learning the fundamentals and making friendships with like-minded nerds gave me the confidence to take it back and begin putting those lessons to use.
After the pandemic, it became clear that there is still nothing that can substitute musicians getting together in the same place to play music. It's our goal to keep that interest and keep it accessible to those who want to be a part. It's my aim to be able to capture it and enhance how it gets re-presented.
All are welcome. Let's get together, let's be open to our creativity, and let's have fun.
